Costa de Cocos, Mexico

Costa de Cocos is located at the end of the southern Yucatan Peninsula, the last village (Xcalak)in Mexico, just 8 miles north of the Belize border. Owned and operated by the same owners for the past 24yrs, there is no one who knows these expansive flats better. At Costa de Cocos, your comfort is very important. Their private cabanas have traditional exterior stonework, exotic tropical woods, native thatch palapa roofs, ceiling fans, and louvered windows all around that capture the cooling Caribbean breeze. Each cabana has it's own private bathroom & shower, fresh hot water, and daily maid service. Their fully stocked bar, home made margaritas and cold cervezas are available anytime.

The Fishery

Costa de Cocos is a wonderful lodge for beginning saltwater anglers to experienced anglers alike. Being further south from populations of people offers endless flats and lagoons that are not nearly as pressured as some of the waters around the Yucatan. In front of the Lodge to the East, are 22 miles of newly formed National Marine Park protected by a reef creating excellent habitat for flats species. To the West is a playground of more than 30 flats in the Chetumal Bay.

With such a large variety of water, there are great
opportunities for Bonefish, Permit, and Tarpon. Those species are present year
round and you can also target Snook, Jacks, Tuna, Barracuda, Snapper, Grouper,
Dorado, Marlin, Sailfish, and more. The lodge operates out of 23ft panga boats
with custom built casting platforms perfect for polling flats, but Chetumal bay
offers some of the best wading in the Yucatan.

The flats at Costa de Cocos are extremely healthy and offer a large variety of species to chase year-round. Bonefish on average run 1-3 lbs. and fish over 5 pounds are not uncommon. The permit fishery in particular is very healthy and multiple shots a day are common. Permit average 5-10 lbs. with larger fish spread throughout the fishery.
