North Platte River Report ::

The Upper North Platte is holding at a pretty steady 300 cfs. The good news is that the Upper North Platte is fishing great right now...The bad news is we're not sure what this means when we move into the middle of the summer. A lot of factors still have to be determined. That being said, this should be an epic spring/summer for dry fly action as soon as the bugs start to meander to the surface. The water clarity is dark tea color, but has been hot or cold at times with bigger nymph rigs at the moment. Temps are still a bit cool but many bugs have started to show up including larger stoneflies, small caddis, midges, BWO's. BWO's have been hatching but most fish are still eating the larger subsurface meals. Double nymph rigs have been producing best with large stoneflies as lead patterns and small baetis and midges as trailers. Don't be shy with the size of your stonefly nymphs as fish become more and more opportunitic for big bugs.
